Background of the Society
The Society (EPS)
Environmental Protection Society (EPS) was founded in 1991 and registered in 1994 as a non-governmental organisation (NGO) under the Societies Registration Act 1860 in Pakistan. The organization’s mandate is to work for the conservation and improvement of the physical, social and cultural environment. EPS initially focused on district Swat of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province till 1997 and extended its areas by interventions in districts of Kohistan, Batagram, Shangla, Buner, Upper Dir, Lower Dir, Malakand and Nowshera.
Over period of time, EPS has founded strong links with the other eminent Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), government departments and funding agencies in its areas of operation. EPS has strong relationships with local and international NGOs which have provided it with technical support in a wide range of areas that align with its current programme priorities. Its present outreach, strong financial turnover, diverse donor base and positive relationship with the communities places it in a strong position to implement its social development activities in targeted areas of KP including NMDs (Newly Merged Districts) as well as other parts of Pakistan.
Our Vision
EPS’s vision clearly and concisely sets out its long-term goal and direction which is “Clean and healthy environment where all people live with dignity and peace”.
EPS’s vision statement clearly and aptly caters the province’s most pressing development needs as Pakistan is currently facing the challenges of terrorism, poverty and imbalance in society. The vision statement correctly recognizes areas where Pakistani social condition lags behind the most and positions EPS to work towards challenging and changing the status quo.
As an eminent NGO of KP, EPS is placed in the ideal position to play a strategic role at this critical point for KP and in particular Malakand Division in assisting it to achieve peace, facilitating communities in development process, contributing to the provincial level to meet development targets. By aligning its vision statement with the current national development context, EPS takes ownership of this unique position to contribute in to areas’ evolution.

Area of Works,
EPS is involved in Research, Advocacy, Social Organization, Human Resource Development, and Service Delivery related directly or indirectly to environmental issues in broader sense. Some of the actions are materialized, other started and still others are proposed through the active participation of the stakeholders.
