To mark World Nature Conservation Day, the International Rescue Committee (IRC), in collaboration with the Environmental Protection Society (EPS) and the University of Buner, hosted a day of learning and action at the University of Buner in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa that encouraged students, Forest Department representatives, community leaders and environmental experts to reflect on their shared responsibility to protect nature. The event engaged experts from academia to help integrate global nature conservation practices into the local context, while discussions focused on climate change, ecosystem restoration and the role each institution can play in safeguarding natural resources. Participants then joined a tree plantation and seedball plantation drive, giving many students their first practical experience of a simple and innovative approach to restoring hard-to-reach landscapes. The event also opened new opportunities for collaboration, with the university planning to continue conservation activities with the Forest Department in the coming weeks. This activity was organised under IRC’s Enhancing Climate Resilience and Sustainable Ecosystems project, with field implementation by the Environmental Protection Society (EPS) and support from the International Union For Conservation Of Nature through the Global Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) Fund.
